QUESTIONS

you ask- i answer

I’ve compiled a list of the most frequent questions that I have received over my career.  Here are some answers to the questions I receive the most. If you can’t find what you are looking for, please get in touch.

What is neurodiversity?

Cerebral is committed to helping individuals understand and embrace their unique perspectives and strengths. We embrace the concept of neurodiversity and recognize that brain functioning differs from person to person. Being neurodivergent means that a person has ways that their brain functions outside of the "normal" way. Examples of neurodivergent diagnoses include Autism, ADHD, OCD, Dyspraxia, Dysgraphia, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia or Tourette's. Neurodiversity advocacy focuses on embracing and celebrating neurodivergent brains instead of trying to fix them and make them neurotypical.

Telehealth or In Person?

Cerebral is a telehealth practice only. Our services provide the opportunity to connect through private and secure audio and visual capabilities. Telehealth may NOT be appropriate if a higher level of care is needed.  We strive to provide our clients with a safe and supportive environment to explore any challenges they are facing.

Our services are available to anyone in the state of Virginia. To meet with us via telehealth you must:

  • Have secure internet connection.

  • You cannot be driving or in a moving vehicle

  • You must be a in private space

Insurance?

Consultation and advocacy are services that are NOT covered by insurance, clients are responsible for all payments. Cerebral Counseling and Consulting's fees are comparable to other licensed clinician's and advocates in the area.

Individual Therapy Services are provided to clients via private pay and for clients participating with the following accepted insurance plans:

  • Kaiser Permanente

  • Aetna

  • Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield

  • United Healthcare

  • Superbills may be provided upon request for out-of-network reimbursement.

Coaching Vs. Therapy?

Parent Coaching and therapy are two different services:

  • Parent Coaching is educational and strategy-focused. It helps parents learn and apply tools to support their child and family system.

  • Therapy is clinical mental health treatment. It addresses emotional distress such as anxiety, burnout, adjustment, or family stress and may be billed to insurance when appropriate.

Each service has separate consent forms, documentation, and billing, even when provided by the same clinician.

Parent Coaching is not covered by insurance and cannot be billed to a health plan. It is considered educational consultation.
