At Cerebral Counseling and Consulting, we are proud to be a collaborative partner with Find the ADHD Girls, a global movement focused on unmasking the often-overlooked experiences of girls and women with ADHD.
Why does this matter?
Because for decades, ADHD has been misunderstood, misdiagnosed—or completely missed—especially in girls. And the cost of going unnoticed? Chronic self-doubt, anxiety, shame, and burnout.
It’s time for that to change.
🚩 Why ADHD Often Gets Overlooked in Girls:
Most of us grew up hearing that ADHD looked like the “hyper boy” who couldn’t sit still or stay quiet. But that’s only one piece of the picture.
Girls often present with:
•Quiet inattention (“daydreaming”)
•Emotional sensitivity
• Perfectionism and people-pleasing
• High masking (appearing organized
but burning out privately)
Because these behaviors don’t disrupt the classroom or home the way “classic” hyperactivity might, they’re easily dismissed. Girls are more likely to be diagnosed with anxiety or depression first—if they’re diagnosed at all. The result? They struggle silently, often for years.
🧠 ADHD in Girls: What to Look For
In partnership with Find the ADHD Girls, we’re sharing this adapted checklist to help you identify signs that may be overlooked:
•Difficulty focusing unless the topic is of intense interest
•Trouble with organization,
time management or memory
• Emotional dysregulation—crying easily,
quick to frustration
• Strong sense of injustice or sensitivity to rejection
•.Overthinking and rumination
• Difficulty transitioning between tasks
• Perfectionism and fear of failure
• Exhaustion from masking or trying to
"keep up”
👉 Note: This list is not diagnostic, but it can help you recognize patterns that deserve attention.
💬 “I Think I Might Have ADHD… What Now?”
If you or someone you love recognizes themselves in this post—pause, breathe, and know this:
You’re not broken. You’re not lazy. You’re not failing.
You’ve been navigating a world that wasn’t designed with your brain in mind.
But with the right support, tools, and self-understanding, life doesn’t just get easier—it becomes more yours.
